The 2009 CCM Distinguished Microbiologist Award is presented to Dr. David Groves in recognition of his outstanding professional contributions to the field of microbiology in Canada in the areas of research, teaching and involvement in the Canadian College of Microbiologists and other professional societies. An active member of the Canadian College of Microbiologists, Dr. Groves has served as a Board member in several capacities and as President from 1993 to 1996.
Dr. Groves is committed to the professional development of Clinical Microbiologists. He was involved with the initial discussions which led to the reciprocal recognition of both the American Board of Medical Microbiology and Fellow of the Canadian College of Microbiologists certifications in Clinical Microbiology. Dr. Groves has also been active with the Canadian Association for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (CACMID), serving as President from 2000 - 2002.
