CCM Student Award/Symposium competition is one of the three Top Category awards at the Canadian Society of Microbiologists annual conference. Students submit a paper for approval and if accepted can compete in a Symposium which takes place over two afternoons.

Maria Trainer, from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, won the CCM Student Symposium Award Topic: Mutational Analysis of PHB Synthesis Genes in Bradyrhizobium japonicum Maria Trainer is shown accepting her award from CCM Registrar Raoul Korngold.

Nadia Mykytczuk, from Laurentian University ,  won the " CCM Award in Environmental Microbiology sponsored by Triosyn Research Inc." Topic: Cold adaptation in the acid mine drainage bacterium  Acidithiobacilus ferrooxidans Nadia Mykytczuk is shown accepting her award from Raoul Korngold.

The 2008 CSM Conference was held at the University of Calgary.
