Microbiologist (SCCM)
This information is intended to help understand the certification programs of the College.

Membership Form and Fees
- The College
has developed a procedure to recognize and to designate members with
qualifications and supervisory expertise beyond the basic requirements
for obtaining the RMCCM status. There are three specialist categories:
SCCM(MLS): Specialist Microbiologist in Microbiology
Laboratory Science
SCCM(COM): Specialist Microbiologist in Commercial/Industrial
Microbiology
SCCM(ENV): Specialist Microbiologist in Environmental
Microbiology
For the
SCCM in Medical Laboratory Science, Commercial/Industrial Microbiology,
Environmental Microbiology or Biosafety, you must :
-
have
at least a B.Sc. degree (or its equivalent) in microbiology or related
biological sciences
-
demonstrate that you have accumulated 150 continuing education credits
within the past 5 consecutive years, and
have the following years of microbiology experience:

If highest degree is B.Sc., 9 years of microbiology experience

If highest degree is M.Sc., 8 years of microbiology experience
-
If
highest degree is a doctoral degree, 6 years of microbiology experience
and
-
pass
an examination for Specialist certification established for this
purpose by the College.

As
of January 2002, certification in SCCM(MLS) is by examination (see Syllabus) whereas SCCM(ENV)
and SCCM(COM) do not require examination until 2006.
