Certification

Certification is formal recognition by the College of Microbiologists that an individual has demonstrated proficiency in, and comprehension of, a specified body of microbiological knowledge. It can be used for licensure for Clinical Microbiologists and recognition of all Registered Microbiologists by their peers.

Why become certified?
In today's world, where competition and the need for quality is a fact of life, a work force proficient in the principles and practices of microbiology is a central concern for hospitals, industrial enterprises and public health laboratories. Certification is a demonstration of excellence. Certification is an investment in your career and in your future. It promises that the certified individual has the knowledge and experience to ensure quality professional services and by continuing education to remain current in their knowledge base. The American Academy of Microbiologists has agreed to reciprocity and has formally recognized the Canadian College certification as verification of an individual's competence in microbiology. An additional facet of the certification is the opportunity to assist the College in furthering its mandate to assist students and promote excellence in Microbiology. Fellows are very active in this respect, undertaking a variety of programs under the auspices of the College.
