Provincial Public Health Laboratory

Permanent, Full-Time Leonard A. Miller Centre

 

Applications are invited for the position of Director, Provincial Public Health Laboratory, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

 

Duties:                                                

This is a senior leadership position, providing direction and overall management of the Provincial Public Health Laboratory, a Division of the Department of Health and Community Services, and report to the provincial Chief Medical Officer of Health. The Director will be responsible for all administrative, scientific and technical operation of the laboratory, which provides a broad range of routine and specialized diagnostic and screening laboratory services in clinical and public health microbiology to various stakeholders throughout the province. The incumbent will provide leadership and supervision in the ongoing development and implementation of molecular diagnostic platform, quality management system, accreditation etc, and independently establish vigorous applied research and development programs in the area of clinical and public health microbiology and/or infectious disease epidemiology.  

 

Qualifications:                        

This position requires superior scientific, managerial, communication and organization skills, and comprehensive in-depth knowledge of clinical and public health microbiology. Applicants must have Ph.D. or M.D. qualifications. Ph.D applicants must have the degree in clinical microbiology with appropriate postdoctoral training in clinical/public health microbiology with certification, or eligibility for certification, by the Canadian College of Microbiologists (FCCM) or the American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM). MD applicants must be eligible for licensure in Newfoundland and Labrador by the College of Physicians and Surgeons and must either hold certification in medical microbiology or infectious diseases from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; or hold an equivalent specialist qualification in medical microbiology or infectious diseases acceptable to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador. Previous experience in clinical/ public health laboratory setting is essential.

 

Salary:                         Negotiable

Hours of Work: 70 hours bi-weekly
